Onshore Wind

England to contribute

The UK Government has launched a comprehensive strategy to significantly expand onshore wind capacity as part of its broader clean energy ambitions. The plan targets an increase in generation from the current 16 GW to between 27 and 29 GW by 2030. To achieve this, the government has introduced over 40 measures designed to streamline the planning process, repower existing sites, and reintegrate larger projects into the Nationally Significant Infrastructure regime. The strategy also includes provisions for up to £70 million in annual community benefits to support areas hosting new developments. Onshore wind is highlighted as one of the UK’s most cost-effective and rapidly deployable energy sources, with the potential to create up to 45,000 skilled jobs. This initiative underlines the government’s commitment to enhancing energy security, reducing consumer costs, and positioning the UK as a global leader in clean energy.
